Our Story
“Diving With Sole” is a deliberate play on words that ties together our love of scuba and sneakers. Sneakers (and their sale/resale/auction) also provide most of the funding for our organization and the diving opportunities we are able to offer.
The primary purpose of Diving With Sole is to provide people with disabilities an opportunity to experience the weightlessness and freedom of motion that scuba offers. The ancillary purpose of the charity is to protect and maintain the health and beauty of coral reefs and their populations.
Parker Eisner founded Diving With Sole because of his love for scuba diving and his desire to share this amazing experience with more people. Parker’s earliest experiences with this phenomenon was when his father had a spinal cord injury and subsequent spinal fusion surgery which kept him and his brother from doing many of the things they used to do together as a family (mountain biking, white water rafting, jet skiing, camping, etc.)
Initially, Parker and his father got certified through a dive shop that specializes in adaptive diving; but after seeing the freedom of motion, reduction of pain, and pure joy his father has while diving together, Parker was exposed to the world of adaptive diving and the positive effect it can have on people’s lives and he wanted to share that with others as well.
Parker is fortunate to be a small part of the South Florida diving community. Through that association, he met Brad Gagas, the founder of a charity called Grateful Divers. Grateful Divers is an organization that sets up ‘dive days’ for disabled people and provides adaptive diving certifications. Parker loved the idea of being able to give other people with disabilities the same unique opportunity that he has had with his father, so he organized and started Diving With Sole.
